The Sweetest Moment

It is the sweetest moment. A moment like that can be complete. From then on it is life, life with its commitments, loyalties, determination and struggle. But a moment, a moment that covers no distance in time, have no space, can be true.

Does he have to be handsome? I don't think he has. He has to be possible, the animal has to be there, lurking.

My friend brought him and told me who he was, where he came from, whom he knew and what he did. He turned his eyes at me and looked at me.

This was what he did. He looked at me and he saw me. He saw me but not in the sense when the Goddess or her angels look into your soul and see all of you. He was no magician, he couldn't know me, couldn't see more than what was there.

He saw me in the way a baby sees a bright shining thing and wants it, not because they know what it is, but because it shines.

He looked me in the eyes and he saw me, selfishly. His eyes told me that he wanted me. They told me he wanted to rule me, do things to me, take me and have me for himself.

I looked back. I looked into his eyes and saw what he wanted. And in that moment, the sweetest of moments, he could have me.

This land is mine but I’ll let you rule
I let you navigate and demand
Just as long as you know…this land is mine

Janice, this sounds like it might be a puppy.
Sometimes young animals look at you and it feels as if they can see your heart.
Love and warm hugs,
Paul.

Paul, you naughty man.

I like ambiguity and the unstated, Janice, and the window into another's experience. But I have to take on faith that such a strong emotion, or bond, can spring from a moment's glance. It's never happened like that for me. (Alas).

I thought exactly the same thing as Paul, and so I found a jarring in the last bit where he's said to want to rule the speaker.

I've seen something like that in someone's eyes once, was it love or infatuation? I don't know.

Dear Paul, but he didn't see my heart, that's the point! But I do love to hear your interpretation, that's half of the fun of writing.

Dear W, thank you, but it is just a fantasy. It was about the idea that you could see, in a moment like that, that someone wants to have you and that you, in that same moment, accepts it.

Dear Ollie, I always maintain that I can't say anything about how something I write is perceived and that is part of the beauty of it. However, I can tell you that I was not thinking about a dog. If you think something else, the story, hopefully, will make sense. What is true, I believe, is that there is really a lot that can be shown or said with the eyes.

Hugs

I think the lady protests too much.

It is very tempting and great fun in this genre to deliberately play games with the reader, carefully obfuscating your true meaning.

It reminds me of a mini-saga I wrote a few years ago on a similar theme:

Collared

Enthralled she ran to His affectionate caress, freely given. The collar irked; but Master required it so she submitted.
He loved her, played with her, controlled her, called her “bitch”, denied her sex.
Desperate she roamed the streets, went with another.
After her puppies were born He had her spayed.

Dear Janice,

I know it's been too long since I stopped by here and now realise how much I have missed your 'voice'.

Yes, to be 'seen', I so completely get this and would add an extention that the one seeing also wants to know to the exclusion of all else. Lord above but I am such a sappy romantic, you have no idea.

Years ago I was in a pub with a boyfriend, whom I was getting rather tired of in many ways. All I wanted to do was go home and was bored out of my brain. After much sighing and asking if he was ready to leave my boyfriend said we would go after he finished his beer. Glancing around the bar just looking at all the people there I locked eyes with a dark haired attractive chap who was staring at me. Not glancing but looking straight at me with interest in his eyes and as if he wanted to come and talk to me. At the time it gave me a jolt and my interest perked up as we stared at each other for a moment. The path between us was blocked by others in the pub and the moment was gone. I always wonder what he saw that made him stare like that. It was strangely sweet.

Told ya, sappy. *sigh*

On reflection, this passage reminds me of the first meeting between Anna Karenina and -- damn, what was that cad's name?? Or Romeo and -- ??
